Dr. Krishnan Ranganath Earns ‘Technology Person of the Year’ at Tech Innovation Awards

by Oluwatosin Alabi

Dr. Krishnan Ranganath, Regional Executive for West Africa at Africa Data Centres, clinched the ‘Technology Person of the Year’ honor at the annual Tech Innovation Awards, an initiative of Digital Economy magazine.

This acknowledgment comes on the heels of his earlier accolade as ‘Man of the Year’ at the Beacon of Information and Communications Technology Merit and Leadership Award 2023.

Digital Economy magazine extolled Dr. Krishnan’s instrumental role in propelling Nigeria’s ICT growth, particularly in the burgeoning sectors of data center and cloud computing. Akin Naphtal, CEO of Instinctwave Group, which owns Digital Economy magazine, asserted, “After assessing your two-decade contribution to ICT in Nigeria and West Africa, it’s clear you’ve elevated the industry. It’s only fitting to bestow upon you the ‘Technology Person of the Year’ title.”

Expressing his gratitude, Dr. Krishnan viewed the award as a catalyst that will invigorate his commitment to the ICT sector, which currently represents 17.47% of Nigeria’s GDP. According to the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS), this figure translates to N3.1 trillion ($6.7 billion) as of Q1 2023.

“I’m deeply thankful to Digital Economy Magazine for this recognition,” he shared with journalists. “It not only validates my efforts but also reinforces the broader vision of industry stakeholders. This motivates me to amplify my contribution to the sector.”

Dr. Krishnan currently spearheads the West African division of Africa Data Centres, a predominant network of interconnected, carrier- and cloud-neutral data facility centers in Africa. With over 30 years under his belt, he has enriched the global industry, liaising with various multinationals in burgeoning ICT markets.

The Tech Innovation Awards, now in their seventh iteration and formerly known as the Nigeria Tech Innovation and Telecom Awards, have become a revered distinction in the ICT arena. This platform celebrates trailblazing entities, governments, private sectors, and individuals that continue to revolutionize the ICT space with their innovative solutions.
