The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) executed targeted airstrikes against Boko Haram and Islamic States of West Africa Province (ISWAP) operatives in the Tumbuns region near Lake Chad in Borno, a development they announced on Monday.
Edward Gabkwet, NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, confirmed the operation’s success, citing the destruction of terrorist hideouts, key structures, and a significant logistics base in the area.
From September 27 to 30, NAF launched precision strikes against terrorist activities threatening military units and civilians in Tumbun Fulani and Tumbun Shitu, following thorough intelligence gathering. The strikes thwarted terrorists in Tumbun Fulani, who were spotted attempting to load jerricans onto two gun trucks hidden under shrubs, disrupting a major logistics hub.
According to a report by the Daily Post, subsequent assessments showed that the decisive strikes at Tumbun Fulani eliminated multiple terrorists and destroyed their gun trucks.
A similar success unfolded in Tumbun Shitu, where NAF operatives identified and targeted structures hiding terrorists under dense vegetation. Surveillance revealed three gun trucks full of terrorists at the site. The immediate response led to a successful strike, eliminating several terrorists and destroying their vehicles.
Air Commodore Gabkwet reaffirmed the Armed Forces of Nigeria’s (AFN) commitment, highlighting their unwavering resolve to eradicate terrorist activities in the Northeast and throughout the country. He credited the advances made by the AFN to stronger interagency cooperation and continuous support from the Nigerian public.
