Nigeria’s AFCON Dream: Adebanjo’s Visit Boosts Super Eagles’ Morale

Adebanjo's Visit Elevates Nigeria's Hopes for AFCON Glory

by Oluwatosin Alabi

On January 7, 2024, UAE-based international sports consultant and football business development expert, Mr. Ibrahim Ibikunle Adebanjo, Group Managing Director of Divinelinks Sports Group, brought an air of optimism and support to the Nigerian Super Eagles’ camp in Abu Dhabi, UAE. His visit, accompanied by his partner Mr. Gilmore Saaimana, a South African FIFA Licensed agent, was more than just a courtesy call; it was a gesture of solidarity and encouragement to the team ahead of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Adebanjo’s presence in the camp was timely, coinciding with the celebration of Victor Osimhen’s recent accolade as the African best player of the year. This acknowledgment from Adebanjo was not just a personal triumph for Osimhen but also a morale booster for the entire team. The team’s spirit was visibly lifted, with Osimhen receiving a standing ovation from his teammates and staff, signifying unity and collective ambition.

During his visit, Adebanjo had the opportunity to interact with key players like Victor Osimhen, Victor Boniface, Ahmed Musa, Kenneth Omeruo, William Troost-Ekong, and Samuel Chukwueze, among others. These discussions revealed a team brimming with optimism and a strong belief in their ability to triumph in the upcoming AFCON tournament in Abidjan.

The consultant, with over 15 years of experience in sports psychology, sensed the right mentality and spirit in the camp, crucial for success in such high-stakes competitions. The conversations also extended to technical aspects, where Adebanjo engaged with the technical staff and Nigerian ex-Internationals, Finidi George and Patrick Pascal. These discussions covered various team aspects, from goalkeeping to attacking strategies, highlighting the team’s great potential.

One key point of discussion was the team’s attacking options, which are abundant given the players’ current form in their respective clubs. This wealth of talent poses a pleasant dilemma for the team’s technical staff in selecting the starting lineup. However, the consensus was clear: the time for Nigeria to shine is now.

In addition to these engagements, Adebanjo also checked in with the medical department, confirming that the players are in top health and hoping for an injury-free tournament.

The Super Eagles are scheduled to play a friendly game in Abu Dhabi, under closed doors. This exclusive setup, with no fans or external parties, allows the team to focus entirely on their preparation and strategy without external distractions.

Adebanjo’s visit to the Nigerian camp is not just a routine check-in; it’s a symbol of the nation’s hope and support for the Super Eagles as they gear up for AFCON. With spirits high and the team in good health, Nigeria looks forward to a strong performance and, hopefully, bringing the AFCON trophy home.
