New capital anchors continental trade hub
Accoridng to Billionaire Africa, Hassan Allam Construction will execute the full scope of work on the Afreximbank headquarters project, covering civil construction, mechanical and electrical systems, landscaping and interior fit-outs. The contract also includes the supply and installation of furniture, fixtures and equipment across the site.
The complex will feature a 750-seat conference center, exhibition halls, retail and dining outlets, operational support facilities and a multi-level parking structure with capacity for about 1,200 vehicles. Afreximbank said the centre will host trade forums, policy meetings and business events tied to Africa’s export and investment agenda.
George Elombi, president and chairman of Afreximbank, said the project addresses long-standing structural gaps in trade information across the continent. He said African businesses often struggle with limited access to reliable trade and investment data, which constrains intra-African commerce.
Construction is expected to take about 36 months. The project is forecast to create roughly 8,000 direct and indirect jobs during construction and about 1,000 permanent roles once operational.
Contractor expands footprint beyond Egypt
Founded in 1936, Hassan Allam Holding has grown into one of the Middle East and North Africa’s established construction and engineering groups. The company operates in around 10 countries, with activities spanning energy, water, industrial infrastructure and logistics.
The group currently has projects valued at about $6 billion under execution. Under the leadership of Hassan Allam and Amr Allam, the company has delivered more than 12 million square meters in Egypt. Recently, it expanded operations both domestically and internationally, signaling a broader regional push. In October, the firm secured a $550 million project in New Cairo.
In September, it won a contract in Muscat, Oman, to deliver water and wastewater systems. These projects reflect a strategic effort to expand beyond Egypt’s domestic market while strengthening its regional footprint.
