Oprah Winfrey, the world’s richest Black woman, has added $100 million to her fortune this year. Her net worth now stands at $3.1 billion, up from $3 billion at the start of January, according to Forbes.
The 70-year-old media mogul remains the wealthiest Black woman globally and one of the 1,300 richest people in the world.
Media empire powers her growing wealth
Winfrey, long celebrated as the “Queen of Talk” for her 25-year run on television, continues to expand her financial reach. She owns Harpo Productions, which co-produced films such as The Color Purple, Beloved, and Selma. She also holds a 25.5% stake in the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), the cable channel she launched in 2011.
According to a report by Billionaires.Africa, her latest $100 million gain follows a $200 million jump in 2024, when her net worth rose from $2.8 billion to $3 billion.
Investments and landholdings fuel expansion
Beyond media, Winfrey invests in beauty, wellness, and real estate. In 2023, she backed Dr. Barbara Sturm’s skincare line and made $6.6 million from selling part of her Montecito, California estate.
She also owns 2,130 acres in Hawaii, making her one of the state’s largest billionaire landholders. Her property manager, Bob Greene, says she plans to conserve much of the land through watershed restoration and native planting projects. “She just wants to protect it forever,” he said.
Winfrey’s wealth reflects a mix of sharp business decisions and long-term investments. At the same time, her environmental projects highlight a broader vision that goes beyond entertainment. Together, these moves keep her at the center of global influence.
