KEY POINTS
- FAAN to enforce cashless payments at airports from Sept. 29, 2025.
- Rollout starts in Lagos and Abuja, covering gates, car parks, lounges.
- Partnership with Paystack aims to modernize airport transactions.
As part of its attempts to modernize operations and keep up with global digital standards, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has said that all payments at its revenue points will be cashless commencing September 29, 2025.
The move will cover airport access gates, car parks, and VIP and protocol lounges, beginning with Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
FAAN partners Paystack on rollout
FAAN, in partnership with payments company Paystack, said the “Operation Go Cashless” initiative will introduce contactless payment options at key points of service. Travelers will also be able to use the new FAAN Go Cashless Card, obtainable at airport access gates in Lagos and Abuja, to complete transactions.
“This initiative responds to the growing demand for safe, modern, and transparent payment systems while ensuring Nigeria’s airports remain aligned with global digital trends,” the agency said.
Enhancing transparency and efficiency
Furthermore by reducing reliance on cash, FAAN said the system will enhance efficiency, strengthen revenue assurance, and deliver faster, more secure service to passengers. The agency emphasized that the transition is designed to cut leakages in collections while creating a more seamless passenger experience.
Help for passengers in terminals
FAAN has also put trained brand ambassadors at all of its airport terminals to make it easier for people to use. They will further help passengers get on board, show them how the cashless system works, and answer any concerns they have to make sure the transfer goes well.
