Botswana celebrated a historic day on Friday as Boko Duma was inaugurated as the sixth president of Botswana.

The event, attended by multitudes from across Africa and worldwide, marked a smooth transition of power, featuring speeches emphasizing unity and a hopeful vision for the future.

Sworn in President pledges unity for a better Botswana

Boko, who attained office amid high public expectations, assured to work with the citizens towards building a better nation. “We will create the Botswana we all desire,” Boko said, thanking citizens for their trust.

“You have given me strength and hope, and I am prepared to return strength and hope to you a thousandfold. Dare to dream about a brighter tomorrow, and let’s walk there together.”


During the inauguration address, he praised his predecessor Mokgweetsi Masisi for a smooth transition of power, which he called a testament to Botswana’s commitment to democracy.

Regional leaders and former presidents attend

The inauguration drew leaders from across Africa, including Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, Namibian President Nangolo Mbumba, Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema, and South African Deputy President Paul Mashatile. 

Former Botswana presidents Masisi, Seretse Khama Ian Khama, and Festus Mogae were also present, along with former cabinet ministers and members of parliament.

Boko’s administration, focusing on economic growth and social welfare, promises a new chapter for Botswana, aiming to inspire collective efforts toward a stronger, more prosperous nation.
